"Jodi Arlyn's songs feature personal yet universally recognizable themes; stories you've heard before, but told in refreshing new ways.
I'm originally from Massachusetts...living in NYC for some time now, working the day job and doing the music thing. Constantly trying to perfect the work/life balance.
My first album, Stars up on the Ceiling, produced by singer-songwriter, Adrian Harpham, will be released January 3, 2012. We cut basic tracks and mastered the tunes at Brooklyn's Mighty Toad Studios. The wonderful musicians who contributed their gifts to my songs were John Deley (keys), Robin Macatangay (guitars), Jon Maron (bass), and Adrian on drums.
I've been playing out and about in the city for a while and I've been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work with many of NYC's most versatile players - On keyboards: John Deley (Dido, The Weepies), Andrew Sherman. On guitar: John Caban (Brother Hijinx, Dana Fuchs, Alana Davis), Thad DeBrock (Spring Awakening, Lucy Woodward), Robin Macatangay (Morley, Kelli Sae, Holly Palmer), Steve Walsh (Dana Fuchs, The Weepies, Erasure). On bass, Jeff Allen (Duncan Sheik), Richard Hammond (Debbie Deane, Erasure, Lucy Woodward), Jonathan Maron (Groove Collective, MeShell Ndegeocello), Tony Tino (Gavin DeGraw, Jenny Bruce). On drums, Bill Dobrow (Teddy Thompson, Martha Wainwright), Ethan Eubanks (Redtime, Juliana Hatfield), Adrian Harpham, Rich Kulsar, Rich Mercurio (Jonatha Brooke, Ben E. King).
I enjoy listening to artists who amaze me with clever word-play. I love hearing a chord change that drips with emotion and angst and, for lack of a better explanation, feels like a punch in the stomach!
As far as my songs go -- well -- although the subject matter often comes from personal experience, I like to think that I'm writing about things that everyone can relate to - unrequited love, anger, embarrassment, lust, happiness. My hope is that you'll hear something that speaks to you and that maybe you'll also "feel the punch"...
